Jose lives in FL but heads to the mountains fairly often to ride and he wanted a set of light weight climbing wheels, but didn’t want to break the bank either.  So the recipe was simple – keep rotating weight as low as possible, but don’t give up too much stiffness either since Jose will also be descending mountains with these wheels, not just climbing them.  The Bitex hubs are light, low cost, and well made.  We used the American Classic 2218 rims which have a nice wide 18mm inner width, are tubeless ready, and are low profile and very light at only 375g each.  To keep plenty of stiffness for predictable handing barreling down the mountain we did a 28 spoke build front and rear with the Wheelsmith DB14 spokes.  Alloy nipples keep save weight as well.  With a final weight under 1400g and a price tag under $500 before shipping, this pair of wheels are a great value and perfectly suited to mountain riding.
