Chris is building up a Junkyard Dog for zipping around his new home of New Orleans.  He wanted a set of wheels that were reasonably light and fun to zip around on, but tubeless ready and stiff enough to hit some singletrack here and there.  The Junkyard Dog is a bit of a modern day anomaly – it’s a rim brake singlespeed 29er.  For hubs we used the beautiful Paul Components Fhub front and Word SS rear hub, both with hi-polish finish.  The rims are WTB’s ChrissCross, they’re a rim brake version of a pretty light MTB rim, and they’re tubeless ready with a UST-like tubeless bead profile.  Silver spokes and nipples keep things classy.  A White Industries freewheel provides the drive, and we used the heavier duty ‘trials’ version that has 72 points of engagement for instant ‘GO!’ when stomping the pedals.

WTB's ChrissCross rims were originally designed as cyclocross rims but they make a great light weight rim brake MTB rim too.
